A Bit Nostalgic
June 13-21 will include stops or stayovers in the following cities:
Chicago,IL; Shipshewana,IN; Holland,MI; Dearborn,MI; Frankenmuth,MI; and Mackinaw Island/City,MI
We will overnight the first night in Chicago. We will have a fantastic gangster dinner show to conclude our evening.
In Shipshewana, IN, our first stop will be the Menno-Hof Museum. Six-programmed areas use a variety of multi-media presentations to submerge us into the world of the Amish and Mennonites. There are hands-on exhibits and display areas of the Anabaptist life. European courtyard, a dungeon with instruments of torture, a 17th-century sailing ship, a print shop, a simulated tornado and an authentic meeting house; are designed to further our understandings of the history, life and faith of these people.
A visit to the Hoosier buggy shop. Also a tour of the Mercantile, they have a 1906 Denzel Carousel featuring hand carved farm animals. Lots of things to see here! The Hudson’s Museum, check out the world’s largest collection of Hudson products. And Amish homemade foods to make our trip extra special! We will experience the Midwest’s largest flea market before boarding our bus to Holland, MI.

In Holland we will go to Nelis Dutch Village & Wooden Shoe Factory, greeted by songs from the towering 25-bell carillon. This theme park is a step back into the Netherlands of over 100 years ago, complete with authentic Dutch architecture, flowering gardens, canals and windmills. The history and culture of the Dutch come to life as they dress in native costumes including wooden shoes, and demonstrate the crafts and life in those olden days. While strolling through the park, enjoy the music of the Amsterdam street organs, and watch the klompen dancers kick up their heels with Dutch folk dance. See how a Dutch farm family would have lived in the Frisian farmhouse and barn. Visit a wooden shoe factory where shoes are carved by hand and with antique automated machinery. Try a pair on! You can step onto the Heksenwaag (a 200-year-old witches' scale) to find out who is guilty of witchcraft, hand crank an Amsterdam street organ, and sample Dutch specialty foods. With your memories of the Dutch Village we will again board the bus for our trip to Dearborn, MI.

In Dearborn we will spend a couple days visiting the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village.
Then on to Frankenmuth for a dash of “Michigan’s Little Bavaria”! Take in the Frankenmuth Style Chicken Dinners, Woolen Mills, Paddlewheel driven Riverboat, the world’s largest Christmas Store, and many other attractions that reflect their old-world German heritage.
Mackinac Island will be our last destination before heading home. We will arrive just in time for the final day of celebration of their Lilac Festival. We will watch the Lilac Festival Parade and take a tour of the island. Have lunch and tour the Grand Hotel. You will have lots of time to investigate on your own as well. We will stay in Mackinaw City and you will have free time the last night for investigating there as well.
